OT/ICS Engineer

The Role

XINTRA is looking for an OT/ICS Engineer who can help design and build operational technology environments that power the world’s most realistic cyber simulations.

You’ll architect and deploy lifelike industrial systems from power grids and manufacturing plants to transportation and water treatment networks used by governments, defense, and Fortune 500 enterprises to train against real-world cyber threats.

This role sits at the intersection of industrial systems engineering and cybersecurity simulation. You’ll bring your knowledge of ICS/SCADA and automation networks to design digital twins that look, feel, and behave like the real thing. Then, working with our red and blue team operators, you’ll transform these environments into live simulations that model adversary attacks on critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain OT/ICS environments for simulation and training use.
• Build digital twins of industrial networks spanning energy, manufacturing, transportation, and water systems.
• Configure and simulate PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and SCADA components.
• Integrate industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, and EtherNet/IP into lab environments.
• Develop automation scripts and IaC templates to deploy OT environments at scale.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity operators to integrate adversary TTPs, detection telemetry, and monitoring systems.
• Create repeatable blueprints for power, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure simulations.
• Document architectures, control flows, and security configurations for reuse and reproducibility.
• Contribute to R&D on how physical processes can be modelled or emulated safely within virtualized environments.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience designing or maintaining ICS/SCADA systems in energy, utilities, or manufacturing sectors.
• Understanding of industrial control protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, IEC 60870-5-104, etc).
• Knowledge of control networks, field devices, and process automation.
• Familiarity with virtualization or simulation tools for replicating OT systems.
• Strong grasp of network segmentation, DMZs, and security zoning in industrial environments.
• Scripting or automation experience (Python, PowerShell, or Ansible).
• Bonus: experience in ICS cybersecurity frameworks. No prior cybersecurity skill is required.
